Furry Kids BB & T is owned by Susan Schmitt.
Susan has always been dedicated to the proper care of animals and knows what a special part they play in our lives. She has had experience her entire life caring for her own pets as well as caring for friends and relatives pets. She knows, not all dogs will do well in a busy commercial daycare or kennel environment and this is why she presently chooses to keep this a smaller facility so that all who visit are given the best care possible and personal attention.
Susan completed a pet training certificate program for basic and advanced obedience training while employed as a dog trainer for a local pet store. She has continued to offer pet training services and continues her education in pet training. She has also completed the PetSaver Program which is an in-depth pet first-aid and care program.
Susan also pays visits to the residents at a local nursing home facility with her Great Dane, Jager (pronounced Yager). The joy that comes to many of the residents while visiting with Jager is very heartwarming to her. Many of the residents had to leave their pets behind when entering into this type of care.
She has always been lucky to have a family member care for her pets when out of town. So many people plan their vacations around what to do about their pets. Let her home be your 'kids' home while you are away.
Meet some of her Furry Kids, past and present.
Shadow was her first Furry Kid and lived almost 15 years. It was heartbreaking to see him go and she dedicates this business to him.
Samson - my first Newfoundland. He had a heart defect and we knew his life would be short with us. He only lived 2-1/2 years but he brought much joy to us during that time.
Zeus- A Neapolitan Mastiff that we adopted at the Buffalo Animal Shelter. He had the sweetest personality and would cuddle with you every chance he had.
Jager (What do you mean this isn't my bed?) - A Great Dane. Need I say more?
Rugby- We adopted Rugby through the local Newfoundland rescue when he was about 3 years old. He is a wonderful dog and has been a wonderful addition to our family.
Update November 2012 - Sadly, we recently had to say Good-Bye to Rugby due to cancer. He survived much longer than anticipated and we cherished every moment.
Out newest addition. Bear is a Black Lab that came to us unexpectedly. His previous owner passed away and close friends called to see if we would give him a new home. He has adapted well to his new surroundings and we are very happy that he has become part of our family.
As you can tell, she just loves the big boys!
